In the tradition of a young Liz Taylor, Gene's
new violet eyes are framed in dark sable brows,
shadowed in lilac pearl & orchid and finished
with applied natural hair lashes. Lips and nails
are a deep pink toned red. Savannah Gene's original
sausage curls are in place, interwoven with silk
violets and an embroidered organza butterfly.
Correct to the toilette of the era, Violetta's
undergarments consist of fine swiss batiste pantaloons
and a lined corset...
a flexible hoop "crinoline"...
and a petty coat of fine batiste, all edged with fine
french cotton lace.
The 2 piece ball gown is wysteria taffeta, prewashed
to create a soft, antiqued effect. Gored for fullness
& box pleated to minumize fabric volume at the waist,
the skirt is embroidered in swirling leaves and violets
then edged in black braid. Delicate embroidered organza
butterflies dance across the violets on either side.
The lined bodice has back snap closure, sewn silk violets,
couched black satin cording along the lower edge & black
tassels at the center front point. A pleated shoulder/sleeve
wrap edged in black braiding is attached at the front but
"floats" at the back bodice, creating the freedom to place
Gene's arms in a variety of positions.
Originating at the back of the wrap, a looped bow
sends long black ribbon streamers to the hem line.
Accessories include beaded white cotton stockings,
black shoes embellished with braiding & violets...
a delicately embroidered monogrammed hankie...
and a beautifully printed libretto that contains an
actual readable summary of the opera.
